Unearthed
This abstract mixed media artwork features shades of red and blue that are layered with intricate patterns of red, pink, and gold. The piece was created using woven strips of recycled paper that were wrapped around a lightweight canvas and painted with acrylics, with additional pieces of gold paper added. The artwork references aerial images of mining in the West Australian desert, and the patterns and marks symbolize the impact on the land. Despite the destruction they depict, the patterns are paradoxically beautiful when viewed from above.
Piece Finalist in the Global Etsy Design Awards 2019.

About Jennifer Bell's work:
Bell's abstract landscapes are shaped by her experience with visual snow disorder, a neuro-ophthalmological condition that causes her visual field to be filled with continuously moving, patterned dots. This unique perspective informs her abstract art style, which is focused on capturing the patterns and textures found in the natural world. By emphasizing the beauty in the often-overlooked details of the landscape, Bell's work invites the viewer to see the world in a new way and appreciate the abstract elements of our surroundings. Her art is a tribute to the patterns that are an integral part of the natural landscape, and her use of abstract forms highlights the abstraction inherent in the world around us.
