Comforts of Home
Having spent a significant portion of my life traveling these works explore what home means to me through the use of different floral and bird motifs. Each flower symbolises a home city from the past few years. The passion fruit to me is Brisbane, Sydney the frangipani, London a rose and Wellington a Kawhai. The birds seen in the chintz paper 'fabric' represent these three countries of Australia, England and New Zealand.
Working from 2016-2017 using antique illustrations as a starting point I recreated the flowers and birds from security envelope lining. These images were turned into limited edition prints and formed the basis for the decoration of some real porcelain plates. Grouping the images together into a repeatable chintz pattern, this paper 'fabric' was cut up into a paper patchwork with additional pieces of security envelopes.
Some limited edition print sizes are still available from this collection here
